Who Will Pay: About the Conference
The symposium will examine how best to allocate or defray the financial costs of catastrophic damage to property and lives from climate change, and the insurance implications of anticipatory adaptation. Too often today, the risk of loss lies with the victims. The conference will explore the current ability and future potential of private and social insurance and alternative risk transfer mechanisms such as reinsurance and catastrophe bonds to indemnify catastrophic losses caused by climate change events, and to motivate sustainable anticipatory adaptation to ever-increasing risks.
Attendees are encouraged to register either online or in person at BC Law School. Registration is completely free. The conference format will feature two separate panels of six speakers discussing. Following the panels, Professor Michael Gerrard will deliver a keynote address at 3:30 p.m. Coffee and lunch will be provided during the day.
